Van Mathews, Sr. reported that Michael Piat passed on September 2, 2025. According to Van's wife, Pam, Michael did not graduate with the Class of 1974 but he attended Waukegan High School, leaving before graduation.

He is survived by his children, Michelle Donnelly and Zachery Kalk.
